Turtle Dog Dreaming

The focus of this project was to fit two animals together into a new, even more awesome animal. I chose to create a turtle dog, and to that end, I looked up photos of turtles and dogs and experimented with fitting them together.

This included resizing the dog photo, adjusting the color balance, and considering how much of the dog should be overlaid onto the turtle. In this way, the proportions and color of the two animals were matched together.

After some experimentation, I used the paintbrush tool and the magnetic lasso to isolate the front half of the dog I had chosen, then adjusted it to line up with the turtle.

Once I'd done that, I used the clone stamp tool to cover over the area where the front leg of the turtle had been and to add a back leg to the turtle. Then I put a layer mask on the dog, and used the brush tool to soften the light that reflected of of its front leg, and the edges of the dog.

Finally, I used the clone stamp tool to make the log look more even and reduce the bright highlight by the turtle-dog's muzzle (which is visible in the top image).

Now the turtle-dog sleeps, dreaming of swimming with its pack and looking for fish to eat.
